Zero Overhead: How We Actually Make It Work

By Altaïr Foundation

When we say 100% of donations go to program work, we mean it. No salaries. No fancy office. No expensive galas. But how does a foundation actually operate with zero overhead? Here's our transparent breakdown.

The Model

Every member of the Altaïr Foundation volunteers their time. We have day jobs, careers, and other commitments. We do this work because we believe in it, not because it pays our bills. This isn't sustainable for large organizations, but for a focused foundation like ours, it works exceptionally well.

Operational costs — website hosting, banking fees, communication tools — are covered separately by our founding members out of pocket. These costs are minimal (under 500 euros annually) and never touch donation funds.

Why It Works

Traditional foundations often spend 15-30% of donations on overhead. For large organizations handling millions, some overhead is unavoidable and necessary. But for smaller foundations, the overhead question becomes critical — if you receive 10,000 euros in donations and spend 2,000 on administration, that's 2,000 euros of food not distributed or trees not planted.

We stay lean by design. Our team is small enough that we don't need management layers. We use free or low-cost tools. We don't maintain an office. Every decision is filtered through a simple question: does this directly serve our mission?

Accountability

Zero overhead doesn't mean zero accountability. We track every euro received and spent. We document our projects with detailed reports. We're transparent about our impact numbers — when we say 19,000 trees, we can account for every planting site and species used.

We believe trust is earned through action, not marketing. Our track record speaks for itself.
